There are films that big it big in the box office with a super famous star cast and there are films which do just fine without a big star cast. And, finally, there are some which have a big star cast but have not been released till date. Yes, there are a number of films like that which still remain suppressed under the sheets.
It goes without saying that this Shoojit Sircar movie has been the talk of the town for over a decade now. Starring Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role, this movie has been stalled for over 10 years now because of the issues with the producers.
Just last year, Amitabh Bachchan took to his twitter to raise his appeal surrounding the release of the movie tweeting, “PLEASE ... PLEASE .... PLEASE @utvfilms, @Disney, Star or Warner’s .. whoever .. Please release this film ..Its been made with extreme labour of love. It was made and given to you years ago. We want must will watch #Shoebite [sic].”
There are still speculations as to why the movie hasn’t been released yet. The movie itself is based around Amitabh Bachchan’s character’s self discovery and the journey that he sets on. Even the director of the film, Shoojit Sircar has voiced his opinions saying its an insult to the creative people involve in the project.
Another movie that didn’t see the light of the day was Time Machine. The director of the movie, Shekhar Kapur roped in this new sci-fi based movie right after the success of Mr. India. Time Machine was inspired by the Hollywood movie “Back to the future”.
The movie had a tremedously talented star cast including Aamir Khan, Raveena Tandon, and Naseeruddin Shah.
Reports suggest that the financial constraints while making the movie was what led to stopping the production and shooting halfway through. Later in 2008, Kapur even tried to revive the project that was left mid-way but nothing took shape.
Another movie from back in the 1990s that was never released was Dus. The movie starred Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon and Shilpa Shetty and was completed 80%.
But, things took a complete U-turn when the director of the movie, Mukul Anand died of a heart attack. Later, Khan and Dutt decided on completing the movie and roped in Rahul Dev, a newcomer but their attempts failed too.
Later, a music video for the popular ‘Suno Gaur Se Duniyawalon‘ was released by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy was released which became a chart topper.
Tara Rum Pum Pum
Another Shekhar Kapur project that is unreleased still to this day is Tara Rum Pum Pum. The movie starred Preity Zinta and was supposed to be her debut film but it never took off. Zinta even confirmed the same later.
She said that she signed the film to be her debut but since that didn’t take off, Kya Kehna became her debut that she is known across the world for.
It is not just Bollywood films that remain unreleased. One of the Hollywood projects, Dark Blood was one of the most talked about projects of River Phoenix. The project was also 80% completed when the 23-year died because of a drug overdose.
Director George Sluizer, who has been keeping the clips of the movies to himself for the last 14 years have been trying to find a way to release the movie. Phoenix’s family, including Joaquin Phoenix, didn’t want to be part of the project.
While the movie has been released in DVD in Germany, no widespread theatrical release has been done till date.
The Fantastic Four
Marvel’s first family superhero project was supposed to take off in 1994 but the same didn’t happen. The Fantastic Four is reported to have been completed and shot and made but the movie was never released.
The movie narrated the story of Reed Richards, Susan and Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm taking on Doctor Doom. There have been reports that a few illegal copies of the movie has been circulating across the world.
The Day the Clown Cried
Last but not the least on the list of unreleased movies is The Day The Clown Cried starring Jerry Lewis. The movie has been stuck in the grip of the production and has not been released till date.
The story of the movie follows the life of a clown who is sent to concentration camp to then lead the death of children. The copy of the movie that Lewis owned was given to the US Library of Congress when he died in 2017.
The library has assured that the movie is going to be shown to the scholars and the members of the public. But, the same won’t be happened before June 2024.
If you were inquisitive of the movies that were never released, these are the top 7 movies. While majority of them have been halted midway with the project, there are some which have been finished but never released.
